Lasta offers two powerful scanning tools to make food logging fast, accurate, and convenient:
- Barcode Scanner — For quick, precise logging of packaged foods using the product's barcode.
- AI Food Scanner (also called "Snap It" or photo recognition) — For estimating nutrition from a photo of any meal, including homemade dishes, restaurant plates, or multi-item foods.
These features work together to cover almost any logging scenario: scan barcodes for branded items, snap photos for everything else, and fall back to search or custom foods when needed.
How to Use the Barcode Scanner
Ideal for snacks, cereals, yogurts, ready meals, and any packaged product with a barcode.
- Open the Lasta app, go to the More tab, and select the Food section under Trackers.
- Tap the + (plus) icon next to the meal (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, or Snacks/Other).
- On the food lookup screen, look for the Barcode option (usually an icon or button at the top — it may be labeled "Barcode", "Scan", or shown as a barcode/camera symbol).
- Tap it to open the camera scanner.
- Point your camera at the barcode and hold steady — the app detects and scans it automatically.
- If the product is in Lasta’s database:
- The full nutrition card (calories, carbs, fats, proteins, portion options, etc.) loads instantly.
- Adjust the serving size/weight if you didn’t eat the full package.
- Tap Add or Confirm to log it — your daily totals update right away.
- If no match is found, try a manual search, a similar item, or create a custom food.
Tips: Ensure good lighting, hold steady, and grant camera permission if prompted the first time.
How to Use the AI Food Scanner
Perfect for homemade meals, restaurant dishes, plated food, or anything without a barcode.
- Open the Lasta app, go to the More tab, and select the Food section under Trackers.
- Tap the + icon next to the meal type you want to log (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, or Snacks/Other).
- On the add-food screen, tap the AI icon in the upper-right corner (it may appear as a camera with an AI symbol)
- Choose to take a photo with your camera or upload one from your photo library.
- First-time use: Allow camera and photo access when prompted.
- Take or select a clear photo of your meal (top-down view, good lighting, full plate visible for best results).
- The AI analyzes the image (usually in seconds) and shows results:
- Recognized foods/ingredients.
- Estimated nutrition (calories, macros, nutrients).
- Tap the main item (or first result) to open its serving page.
- Adjust the portion size to match what you actually ate, edit ingredients if the recognition needs correction, then confirm to add it to your diary.
Tips for Best AI Results:
- Use bright, natural lighting and avoid cluttered backgrounds.
- For multi-item plates, the AI tries to identify everything — you can refine afterward.
- Accuracy improves with each app update as the AI learns.
- If results seem off, edit portions or fall back to manual entry/custom food.
Both scanners are integrated directly into the add-food flow — no extra apps or setup required. They save time, reduce guesswork, and help keep your calorie, macro, and nutrient tracking reliable.
Scan, snap, log — and keep moving toward your goals with ease! 📱🍽️
If either scanner isn’t appearing, make sure your app is updated to the latest version, check camera/photo permissions in your phone settings, or contact Lasta support via the in-app menu for help. Happy logging! 💚
